May 1, 2024 (San Antonio, TX) With rising temperatures, keeping kids cool this summer is critical for public safety. That’s why The San Antonio Observer and Shafer Services Plus are teaming up to donate and install free A/C for children in need.
“We’re seeing an increased need to provide safe temperatures for children across San Antonio,”
said Stephanie Zarriello, publisher of The San Antonio Observer, San Antonio’s only African American newspaper in South Texas since 1995. “Facing record-setting temperatures without air conditioning can be extremely dangerous. Providing safe temperatures is becoming just as important as providing free meals over the summer.”
Locals can nominate themselves or someone in need to receive a free A/C unit and installation. Nominations can be submitted at www.shaferservices.com/shafer-serves by July 1st. The fully installed unit comes with a parts and labor warranty.
“Having air conditioning in San Antonio isn’t a luxury, it’s a matter of safety,” said Chase Anderson, President and CEO of Shafer Services Plus. “That’s part of why we created our Shafer Serves program to provide essential heating, cooling, and plumbing services for people in need.”
Since 2020, Shafer Services has donated more than $100,000 in parts and services to local residents and non-profits in need of critical services.
“Providing free services for San Antonians who couldn’t afford it has been one of the most meaningful things we’ve experienced as an organization,” added Anderson. “It’s changed their lives, but it’s also grown who we are as a local company and the role we’re honored to play in this community. We’re able to serve by doing what we do best.”
