This past April, Shafer Services Plus had the honor of volunteering at Boy Scout Pack 1492’s Pinewood Derby in San Antonio, TX. It was a thrilling event that brought together families, friends, and racing enthusiasts from across the city.
The excitement began as the kids brought in their carefully crafted cars to be weighed and grouped by rank. The atmosphere was electric as participants eagerly awaited their turn. Even the adults had their moment in the spotlight, competing in categories of their own. Shafer Services Plus proudly raced in the Outlaw category, where the only rule was there were no rules!
Participants lined up four cars at a time on the track, ready for the race of a lifetime. A judge would set the cars up, pull the lever, and watch as they zoomed down the track, each car racing four times on different lanes to ensure a fair competition. The entire process was seamlessly automated and tracked by computers, ensuring no details were missed.
The creativity on display was truly remarkable. Some cars were designed to look like Batman, while others took on the appearance of dogs and monster trucks. The ingenuity and effort put into each car were evident and added to the fun and festive atmosphere.
Friends and family gathered to cheer on the racers, their enthusiasm matching that of the participants. Our volunteers from Shafer Services Plus were also there, encouraging the young racers and adding to the lively spirit of the event.
At the end of the day, every rank had a first, second, and third place trophy, and all participants received well-deserved medals. It was a day filled with laughter, excitement, and a strong sense of community.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Pinewood Derby, set to take place in early 2025.
